What Is MIPS and Why Is It Important?

MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System, a technology that has revolutionised the design of ski and bike helmets to provide enhanced protection against rotational forces. Traditional helmets are designed to protect against direct impacts, but in real-world accidents, impacts often occur at an angle, creating rotational motion. This is where MIPS comes into play.

How MIPS Works:
MIPS technology involves a low-friction layer integrated inside the helmet, which allows the outer shell of the helmet to rotate slightly upon impact. This rotation helps reduce the amount of rotational motion transferred to the brain, minimizing the risk of serious brain injuries.
