What body protection is mandatory for FIS ski racing?
New FIS regulations introduced in the 2025/26 season have made body protection a requirement to compete in certain disciplines to reduce injury risk. Whilst body protection is still not a requirement for some skiing disciplines, it is highly recommended. Body protection should be worn underneath racing suits to avoid any unfair aerodynamic advantages.
How do I choose the right size back protector?
To find the right size skiing back protector, you’ll need to measure the size of your back. Get a friend or family member to help you by measuring from the base of your neck (the bone that sticks out slightly) to the base of your spine. Use this measurement to check the length against themanufacturer’s recommendations. A properly fitting back protector shouldn’t hit your helmet when you sit or bend and should cover your full spine. If you need help choosing a properly fitting back protector, you’re welcome to visit us at our Sheffield ski shop, and our friendly team will help you choose the right fit.
How do I maintain my body protection?
Skiing body protection is often made from special materials that require delicate care. Some items may not be machine washable, so always check the manufacturer label to ensure your garments don’t get damaged.
